That’s a great question! So many choices! So far out of or quest to make the 50 state’s iconic sandwiches, it would have to be the Muffaletta for Louisiana. We are going to have the official post next Monday for that one.

I had the opportunity to ask the guys from Team Fat Kid what their favorite sandwich was.
If you don’t know who Team Fat Kid is: They are 4 chefs- Jason Fossee, Alex Carr, Jacob Dooley, Dennis McKain from Virginia Beach. Team Fat Kid started because of Sunday night cookouts. They would be BBQing and smoking meats and making over the top meals – friends started telling them – hey you should record or do something with this. So on April 2013, they did! They started off with Instagram, continued on to Facebook, and now they do a podcast (Team Fat Kid Chews The Fat) every Monday on their YouTube channel.
I had been following their Instagram account for some time and then saw the exciting news that they would be on the latest season of Food Network’s Great Food Truck Race.
Their team – Team Fat Kid came about because their food is very over the top. I read an interview where Fossee described it as: “I would put it in a spectrum of almost carnival food. In a world that’s going toward healthier options, we go in the opposite direction. A good friend of ours came up to me one day and said, ‘Dude, there has got to be a 600-pound fat kid inside you just trying to come out.’ Alex actually coined the term Team Fat Kid because in every person in the world is a fat kid inside who just wants to eat ice cream and do things you’re not supposed to do. A lot of those people have way more control than we do because we love to eat and we love good food.” – I can get behind all of this and enjoy the food creations they are whipping up in their Fat Kid Kitchen!
I have also been enjoying their quest to make the 50 state’s iconic sandwiches. So far they have made 26 of the 50. The Muffaletta is one of those sandwiches they created. A muffuletta is a deli sandwich topped with fresh olive salad. It’s also made on a 9″ round Italian bread. Since the guys are outside of Louisiana, it’s very hard to find the Italian bread for a muffuletta. So they looked up a recipe and made their own. It took them about 2 1/2 days. Love their sandwich-making conviction and staying true to the sandwich.
You may even hear me on an upcoming episode of Team Fat Kid chews the Fat with me- 🙂
