On January 30th, 2018- a report came out that had Orlando, FL was the Sandwich Capital of the U.S. A great and prestigious accomplishment for our city. As someone who takes great pride in the city I live in and supports so many local sandwich shops – I wanted to show them love the only way Deli Fresh Threads knows how- with a t-shirt of course.
I wanted this shirt to be special – I also wanted to incorporate some of the sandwich shops I had done #SandwichEatUp events with. In talking with my designer for this shirt, – Will of Noble Folk Design – I told him of a goal I have had for the past 2 years – I wanted to create a shirt that the sales would go to a local charity. Being a food-inspired clothing brand – I thought the Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida would be a perfect organization.
Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida is a non-profit organization that collects, stores and distributes donated food to more than 550 feeding partners in 6 central Florida counties. Last year thanks to the donors, volunteers, and great community support- they were able to distribute 56 million meals to food pantries, shelters, day cares and many more.
They have also created opportunities for the economically-challenged with 14-week culinary training programs to help them on a path of self-sustainability.
1 in 6 people in Central Florida (over 498,000 people) are food insecure and rely on Second Harvest Food Pantries and meal services to feed their family each year.
1 in 4 children (193,000) doesn’t know where their next meal is coming from.
These numbers are concerning and I feel every bit helps in feeding someone in need.
As a small brand, I can’t write a BIG CHECK like other organizations- however for every $1 provided to Second Harvest Food Bank it is $9 worth of food!
This Shirt is special to me because – 100% OF THE SALE OF THE SHIRT will be going to Second Harvest Food Bank of Central Florida. (Yes anything I make from these shirt is going straight to them!)
I have reached out to various Sandwich Shops in Central Florida to help me in this project. Without their help, I would not have been able to fund this shirt idea.
I would like to thank and ask that you support these great sandwich shops featured on the back of the Orlando- City of Sandwiches shirt.
Thank you to:
The shirt is currently in Pre-Sale- I have the shirt at the printers and should have it back from them and ready to ship by the 2nd/3rd week of March.
I had the opportunity to guest blog on the Second Harvest Food Bank blog about the shirt. You can read it HERE
