Let me introduce you to the Medianoche sandwich. The Medianoche sandwich could be considered the cousin or primo of the Cuban Sandwich. It has the same fillings as the Cuban Sandwich – roast pork, ham, mustard, Swiss cheese, and sweet pickles. The biggest difference is the bread – soft, sweet egg dough bread instead of Cuban Bread and its smaller than the traditional Cuban sandwich.
The Medianoche means (Middle of the night/ midnight) and it originated in Cuba. It was a popular sandwich that was served in Havana’s night clubs right around or after midnight. Of course it is still a popular sandwich enjoyed during late Miami Nights.
I enjoy this sandwich and was inspired to include it into my Sandwich City Series. It made even more sense when I saw the Miami Nights Jerseys that reminded me of the 80’s Miami Vice look.
I reached out to my friend, Alex Lopez – Friks84 who is a Miami resident and awesome designer. I told him what I was thinking and wanted to get his feedback and interest. He was all in and said lets make it happen!
