April 2nd is National Peanut Butter and Jelly Day. The Peanut Butter and Jelly sandwich is an American staple. It’s the perfect combo for a sandwich- it’s quick, easy and filling. It is something I am sure you’ve eaten and enjoy unless you have a nut allergy. I however do NOT like PB&J. I don’t have a peanut allergy and I only enjoy Peanut Butter if chocolate is involved. I’m not sure if this is true but I’ve heard your taste buds change every 7 years. I try every year to eat a PB&J sandwich and I’ve never finished a single one. I want to like PB&J sandwiches yet my biggest problem is that I am not a fan of the after taste that the peanut butter has. I’ve tried every type of peanut butter out there: chunky, smooth, extra creamy, whipped, honey, and even all natural Peanut Butter and none of them have me finishing a PB&J sandwich. I don’t think the jelly is the problem in the equation- though I think I’m partial to Strawberry over grape.
As a parent I tell my daughter to always try everything twice-once to see if you like and then again just to make sure. So I practice what I preach and continue to try the PB&J challenge until one day my taste buds tell me I’ll like it. Just hope by then I still have taste buds to know its PB&J since by age 60, most people have lost half of their taste buds!
I am not sure why I so badly want to enjoy a PB&J sandwich, especially since most of your PB&J consumption happens during your adolescences. They say the average American student will have consumed approximately 1,500 PB&J sandwiches upon graduation from high school.
Do you like PB&J? What kind of peanut butter do you like? Do you have a jelly preference? Which one do you spread on 1st? Do you know that 96% of people put the peanut butter on first when making a peanut butter and jelly sandwich?
