Knowing what you want to be when you grow up at an early age must be an awesome feeling. Sometimes we still wonder what we want to be when when are already grown-up. For chef Duff Goldman, his mom could tell he knew he wanted to be a chef when she saw him watching Chef Tell on TV. He was swinging a meat cleaver at the age of 4.

Duff had the courage to take leaps towards his goals – his sophomore year of college he applied to be a cook at one of the finest restaurants in Baltimore. He didn’t have the experience but he did get an opportunity to work in the kitchen making cornbread and biscuits. Duff says that was the turning point in his career. Sometimes you just need someone to give you that chance to give you that right opportunity to lead you on your path. You have to be ready to ask for it and to take it when that opportunity comes.

With experience he learned, he continued mastering his craft once he graduated college. He attend culinary and art school and began working with acclaimed chefs at various restaurants around the country becoming an executive pastry chef along the way.

In 2000, he opened his own business Charm City Cakes. This was when I was first introduced to Duff. If you watch Food Network this is how you many have come to know of Duff and his amazing, unusual cakes on Ace of Cakes. He and his team create unusual and artistic cakes. His Food Network show that lasted 10 seasons.

During my research on Duff I was excited to see that he actually lived in the town of Sandwich, Massachusetts! He also graduated from Sandwich High School. During his time in high school, he worked at a local bagel shop at the mall where he almost got fired for making the sandwiches too big.

I also found out that Duff is a graffiti artist, a metal sculptor, a musician and a Johnny Cupcakes fan
Duff has been busy with 2 shows on Food Network– “Duff till Dawn” and “Kids Baking Championship” plus the opening of Charm City Cakes West
