I love a good Cuban Sandwich! I am Cuban and when I lived in Jersey I always loved visiting my family in Miami because that meant I would be eating good Cuban Sandwiches. You can probably tell that I still enjoy a good Cuban Sandwich since I had a #SandwichEatUp at Black Bean Deli, my favorite Cuban restaurant in Orlando, FL. Also in my 1st series release for Sandwich City– I made a Miami Cuban Sandwich shirt.
There has been a great debate in the state of Florida between Tampa and Miami. Which city is the originator of the Cuban Sandwich and what makes it an authentic Cuban Sandwich. It has become a pressed debate that to be honest- is a delicious dilemma.
If you have never had a Cuban sandwich it is a sandwich that is usually served on hot-pressed Cuban bread. It contains shredded pork, glazed ham, swiss cheese, yellow mustard, and dill pickles.
From what I’ve read and been told, the difference between these two cities Cubans’ besides the geographic location and the Cuban breads shape is that Tampa’s version has salami in it while the Miami version does not. Now I will tell you that I have never tried Tampa’s Salami version. I’ve grown up only eating the ones in Miami and the ones I eat in Orlando, are all Salami free.

I think it’s awesome that they have invited folks from South Florida to compete in their festival. The top 3 sandwiches from South Florida will be automatically entered to compete in the best Cuban Sandwich contest. Who will win? Miami or Tampa. Personally I think we are all winners – we all get to enjoy Cuban Sandwiches!
